HC dismisses PIL of Khalra Mission

Punjab and Haryana High court today dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Khalra Mission Committee to seek directions in Balwant Singh Rajoana case.

Punjab and Haryana High court today dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Khalra Mission Committee to seek directions in cases pending in courts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

If on appeal, the sentence of any of the accused was reduced by the appellate court, the benefit of the same be given to all other accused who had not filed appeal before the appellate court, the petitioner had contended.

A division bench headed by Justice Hemant Gupta said that the petitioner had no locus standi (legal right) to file the petition.

The petitioner had also sought direction to addition sessions judge in Chandigarh to issue warrants in Balwant Singh Rajoana case as were issued in case of Jagtar Singh Hawara, co-accused in the assassination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh.
