Honeypreet to stay in jail as court dismisses her bail plea
Honeypreet had sought bail from the court, claiming that no evidence was found against her by Haryana Police even as she was behind bars for 245 days.
A local court on Thursday dismissed bail plea filed by Honeypreet Insan, main accused in the Panchkula arson that followed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s conviction.
She had sought bail on the grounds that Haryana Police had found no evidence against her.
Honeypreet’s counsel, Dhruv Gupta said, “The court has dismissed her bail plea. We are yet to get the detailed orders. We will apply for bail in the high court, likely in July, once we go through the detailed orders.”
The defence pleaded she had no role in triggering the violence as she was with the dera chief inside the court room when clashes erupted between dera followers and security agencies.
Honeypreet had pleaded that she had been behind the bars for 245 days without any fault or committing crime. Meanwhile the public prosecutor opposed her bail plea, saying that she was the main accused in the case and may tamper with evidence. The defence also argued that when 15 co-accused in the case, had already been granted bail, she too deserved to be out on bail.
As per the police chargesheet, Honeypreet planned the violence in connivance with the 45-member dera management, most of whom have been arrested, except dera spokesman Aditya Insan. He was declared a fugitive last month.
