
In 2014, every 3rd day a holiday for Punjab govt employees
The Punjab government on Friday announced 36 gazetted holidays for its employees for 2014. It means that every third day would be a holiday in the state, including the weekly offs on Saturdays and Sundays.
State government offices would be non-functional for half of October, which has seven holidays, besides Saturdays and Sundays.
The public holidays in October, as announced in the state government's notification issued here, are Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), Dussehra (October 3), Id-ul-Zuha (October 6), Valmiki Jayanti (October 8), Guru Ramdass' birth anniversary (October 9), Diwali (October 23) and Vishwakarma Day (October 24).
Other holidays include Guru Gobind Singh's birth anniversary (January 7), Republic Day, Basant Panchmi (February 4), Ravidass Jayanti (February 14), Mahashivratri (February 27), Holi (March 17), Shaheed Bhagat Singh's martyrdom day (March 23), Ram Navami (April 8), Mahavir Jayanti, Baisakhi (April 14) and Dr BR Ambedkar's birth anniversary (April 14).
