Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday termed the Aam Aadmi Party’s proposed protest outside Punjab Bhawan in Delhi a political stunt with an eye on the upcoming Assembly elections in the national capital and lashed out at Arvind Kejriwal over his lies on the issue of air pollution.

Amarinder said air pollution in Delhi was directly related to rampant construction activity, widespread industrialisation and total mismanagement of city traffic and Kejriwal was trying to divert public attention from his government’s failures by indulging in such outright lies. By blaming others for his own lapses, Kejriwal was showing signs of poor leadership, the CM added.

Captain also accused Kejriwal of resorting to political gimmickry after failing to seriously address the pollution problem in Delhi in the past five years. “If stubble burning is the primary cause of Delhi’s air pollution, as Kejriwal claims it to be, then how can he explain the atrociously high AQI in the national capital even during December and January,” Amarinder asked. The CM asked Kejriwal to explain how AQI levels in the state, where stubble fires were taking place, were better than Delhi.

The sudden spike in pollution in Delhi post Diwali was evidently linked with firecrackers, which AAP failed to control despite Supreme Court’s directives, said the Punjab CM.
