Dismissing the drug charges levelled by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) legislator from Bholath Bibi Jagir Kaur, Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Monday said these were without any substance.
At a press conference here, Khaira said the picture released by Bibi, showing him with Gurdev Singh, who was arrested in Fazilka for drug smuggling, was clicked in 2009. “Gurdev was then sarpanch of Lakhan ke Padde in Kapurthala district. He was my supporter. How could have I known in 2009 that he would do drug trafficking in 2014,” said Khaira.
“Bibi should also provide evidence of the gang of 60-70 armed men working under him. How can the police even allow me to run such a gang in my constituency?” questioned Khaira. About the wealth he had amassed as being alleged by Bibi, Khaira said most of it was ancestral property since 1847.
Khaira said the Punjab and Haryana high court had issued a notice to Bibi Jagir Kaur for illegally encroaching upon 173 acres of land worth `100 crore of the Begowal nagar panchayat.
Khaira said Bibi Jagir Kaur’s son-in-law Bhupinder Singh, who is also the zila parishad chairman, is an accused in the `8 crore cheque-bounce case, which is pending in a Delhi additional sessions court. Khaira also showed a picture of Punjab cabinet minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon along with Saheb Singh of Patti, who was nabbed by the Amritsar police on November 10 last year for possessing 14 kilogram of heroin.
Khaira also showed pictures of Punjab revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia with Bittu Aulakh, one of the key accused in a multi-crore-rupee drug racket.
“Having clicked pictures with someone does not mean that a person is also involved in criminal activities. Why the police have not formed a special investigating team against Majithia and Kairon?” questioned Khaira.
