Even as three-year LLB entrance exam was conducted at Panjab University here on Saturday, members of thecommittee, which was formed last week to look into the paper leak incident, are unaware of the fact that they are part of the panel. The three-year LLB entrance exam was held at Panjab University on June 9 and on the same day it was found that the question paper was leaked.
The PU authorities then formed a committee, which suggested that a re-exam be conducted. Fingers were raised at the exam coordinator, Prof Vijay Nagpal, who then had told HT that while question papers were with him for just about a day; the same were lying at the DUI’s office for about a month. He asked why was he being targeted? Another fact that had been brought out by HT was that senator Ajay Ranga’s brother had also appeared for the entrance exam. Ranga had claimed that he had called the coordinator during the exam on June 9 and had told him that he had heard a rumour that the question paper had been leaked. The committee, which was formed by university vice-chancellor AK Grover, had on Monday marked a regular inquiry into the LLB paper, which was leaked on June 9.
Though the committee said the paper was leaked and a reexam be conducted, it did not fix any responsibility. Later, a new committee comprising four members — dean, laws, Satya Pal Jain; former dean, laws, GK Chatrath; senators Parmod Kumar and IS Chaddha - was formed, but they never met.
Except GK Chatrath, who was not accessible, all other three members of the committee, who were contacted, maintained that they were not aware of any such committee.
IS Chaddha, one of the members of the committee, said: “I was away and returned to the city a few days ago. I have heard that I am a part of the committee but don’t have much details on the same. The committee hasn’t met so far.” Parmod Kumar, another member of the committee, said: “What paper leak and which committee? I am not aware of anything. I was away from the city so don’t know yet if I have been made member of any committee.”
Meanwhile dean, laws, Satya Pal Jain said: “I am not in the city and don’t know about any such committee. The communication might have reached my residence but I have no such information as of now.”
The incident has already brought shame to the varsity and the attitude of the university authorities in getting to the bottom of the incident has further made fingers being pointed at the varsity.
PU dean university instructions (DUI) Prof AK Bhandhari said: “The committee was formed recently and there can be a possibility that the members haven’t received any communication. The committee will soon start investigating into the matter.”
