Minister submits details of 514 Punjabis stuck in Iraq to MEA

The Punjab government on Saturday submitted report of more than 514 Punjabis stuck in Iraq to the union ministry of external affairs (MEA) seeking help for their safe return. The state’s minister for NRI affairs, Tota Singh, said Punjabis in Iraq remained safe for now, but the central government should arrange their exit as soon as possible because conditions in Iraq were worsening.

As per information collected at the state control room (phone numbers 0172-2740397 and at 0172-2740035), the stranded men include 36 from Gurdaspur district, 15 from Nawanshahr, 40 from Jalandhar, 35 from Patiala, 224 from Hoshiarpur, 35 from Kapurthala, 10 from Ludhiana, seven from Barnala, 37 from Rupnagar, five from Pathankot, 13 from Fatehgarh Sahib, 39 from Amritsar, three from Bathinda, one each from Moga and Sangrur, eight from Mohali, three from Tarn Taran and two from Faridkot. The information was updated till 6pm on Saturday.
