Newly-wed killed for ‘honour’ in Sirsa

A newly married woman missing for the past few days has allegedly been murdered by her relatives at Darbi village in this district, the Ding police have said. A case has been registered.

A newly married woman missing for the past few days has allegedly been murdered by her relatives at Darbi village in this district, the Ding police have said. A case has been registered.

Victim Amandeep (23) was in love with her neighbor, Manmeet (25). On August 10, they eloped and, on August 11, married at a gurdwara in Chandigarh. Till August 22, the couple then stayed at a safe house of the Sirsa police before moving with Manmeet’s parents at Darbi.

On Se ptember 30, when Amandeep and Manmeet were on way to his aunt’s, Amandeep’s relatives allegedly intercepted their motorcycle and beat up both. Amandeep was kidnapped. Manmeet approached the police but they failed to trace his wife.

A case of kidnapping was registered against her relatives Jagtar Singh, Ram Singh, Sonu, Vicky, Gudo, Teepu, Pooja, Rani, Mukhtyar, Karan Singh, Chanan Singh, and Roop Singh.

On October 2 (Thursday), Amandeep’s body was found in a field at Darbi. Police found that someone had attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon and cut her throat. On the complaint of her husband, the police added Section 302 (murder) of the Indian

Penal Code to the first-information report (FIR) lodged at Ding, police officer Raj Kumar has confirmed.
