NRHM nurses on hunger strike

Nurses working under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in Punjab on Wednesday started a hunger strike at the office of the director, health services.

These nurses, under the aegis of the NRHM Punjab Staff Nurses Employees Union, are demanding regularisation of services. Protesters said the strike would continue till the government regularised their services. They said they had been working on contract for the past more than a decade.

The union threatened that if the government did not consider their demand, they would go on a complete strike, which would cripple rural health services in the state.
