Panel seeks early redressal of pending SC cases

The Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes (SC) on Wednesday had detailed deliberations with chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal and impressed upon him for taking early steps to redress pending issues of the SC community.

Commission chairman Rajesh Bagha, accompanied by commission member Parkash Singh Gardhiwala, during the meeting, called for implementation of the ongoing post-matric scholarship scheme meant for meritorious children belonging to the community in the state, a press release said.

Stressing the need to monitor the scheme so that it could cater to the maximum number of SC students, Bagha expressed apprehension that a few government and private institutions had been charging admission fee from underprivileged students whose income is less than Rs 2 lakh per annum.
