Panel to review crop diversification

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has constituted an expert committee under Punjab State Farmers' Commission chairman Dr GS Kalkat to evaluate the state's ongoing crop diversification programme and suggest changes to make it more result-oriented.

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has constituted an expert committee under Punjab State Farmers' Commission chairman Dr GS Kalkat to evaluate the state's ongoing crop diversification programme and suggest changes to make it more result-oriented.

The committee has been constituted to also monitor the outcome and experiences of the diversification programme, under which the union agriculture ministry had allotted Rs 224.5 crore out of the total outlay of Rs 500 crore earmarked for the original Green Revolution states of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, a spokesman said here.

The committee headed by Dr Kalkat would have Punjab Agricultural University vice-chancellor Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University V-C Dr VK Taneja as its members.
