Poll bugle sounded, protests galore on university campus
As the news of Panjab University writing to the administration recommending student council polls spread on the campus, various parties held protests and announcement sessions. Student bodies also submitted memorandum to the administration to put forward student-related demands so as to woo prospective voters on the campus.

The varsity’s vice-chancellor’s workplace was abuzz with activities throughout the day as students resorted to dharnas outside his office.
NSUI PANEL
National Students Union of India (NSUI), on Wednesday, announced a panel and appointed Bindu Grewal from public administration department as party chairman, Manpreet Singh from police administration department as the party’s vice-president.
Other panel members whose names were announced included Namit Chhabra from University Institute of Legal Studies, Brahmjot from biophysics, Piyush Rana from department of mathematics and Puneet Garg from university business school and Mohit from botany department as general secretaries. Aditya Seyal was announced as the incharge of Dental Sciences College. Shivani Bisht and Gurleen were appointed as vice-presidents from UILS and department of anthropology respectively.
HPSU PANEL
Himachal Pradesh Students Union (HPSU) also announced a new panel. Sahil Kharol from the law department was appointed as chairman of the party, Shubham Chandel of university institute of legal studies as president while Neha Mehta from department of library sciences took over as vicepresident. The student wing also declared Aman Negi and Kuldeep Kumar from University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology as general secretary and joint secretary, respectively.
INSO PROTEST
The Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) held a protest outside the vice-chancellor’s office.The students demanded that a canteen be opened at the community education department and that the department be also provided with water coolers. They also complained about lack of airconditioning facility at the library of the University Institute of Applied Management.
ABVP DRIVE
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a drive against drug abuse at the Student Center. Party workers educated students about the menace of drugs and alcohol. ABVP stated that their priority in these elections would be to reach out to students and spread the message of drug de-addiction.
SOI PROTEST
The Student Organisation of India (SOI) protested outside the hostel number 8. and claimed that five of its members would sit on indefinite hunger strike outside Kasturba Gandhi Hostel if their demands were not met. Students claimed that the university authorities on Tuesday had assured them that their demands would be fulfilled but nothing had been done so far.
Students demanded that a reading room be provided in girls hostel number 8 and coffee house in the Kasturba Gandhi hostel. Students also demanded that entry timings for the students be extended.
