PU to start 2 new courses in upcoming academic session
Panjab University (PU) will start two new courses -- Masters in Engineering (Biotechnology) and Masters in Dental Surgery (MDS) -- from 2015-16 academic session.
Panjab University (PU) will start two new courses -- Masters in Engineering (Biotechnology) and Masters in Dental Surgery (MDS) -- from 2015-16 academic session.
For admission to Masters in Engineering (ME) in Biotechnology, the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score will be applicable, while for MDS, an all India-based entrance test will be applicable, for which modalities are being worked out.
According to Dean University Instructions (DUI), AK Bhandari, a formal permission to start MDS in five streams at Dr HS Judge Dental Institute, PU Campus, is likely to be received this week. The MDS course will have 14 seats.
Bhandari added that ME Biotechnology would be started at University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) with 20 seats.
"PU will also be conducting MBBS entrance exam for NRI seats at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh. The Supreme Court has directed to conduct entrance exam for these seats," informed Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examinations.
The admission to 14 courses like B Pharma, Honours Schools in Science and Mathematics would be conducted through PUCET (Under Graduate), while admission to 22 courses like LLM, MCA, MA (Journalism and Mass Communication) and PG Honours Schools would be conducted through PUCET (Post Graduate). Meanwhile, the admission to 59 PhD and MPhil courses would be conducted through the MPhil/Ph.D entrance tests.
Separate entrance tests would be conducted for BA.LLB (5 Year)/B.Com LL.B (5 Year); LL.B (3 Year) and BSc (Hotel Management and Catering Technology)/BSc (Tourism and Travel Management).
"We are issuing advertisements all over India to attract the best talent. We are getting calls from all over the country regarding the entrance tests. We will use the social networking sites to reach out to maximum people," said Vineet Punia, director, public relations.

Admission to courses on the basis of aptitude test conducted by the department in master courses includes Sanskrit, Gandhian and Peace Studies, History of Arts, Music (Vocal and Instrumental), Indian Theatre, Social Work, Police Administration, Human Right and Duties, B.A. Hons (Education) B.Ed, B.Ed. Special Education (learning disability), Postgraduate Diploma Courses in Advt. and Public Relations, M.Sc. Stem cell and Tissue Enggineering, five-year Integrated BSc and MSc in Fashion and Lifestyle Technology, Diploma in Translation (Hindi to English).
Admission on basis of merit
Admission to courses on the basis of merit includes MSc in Anthropology, Forensic Science and Criminology, Statistics, Instrumentation. M.A in Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology, Community Education & Disability Studies, Defence and National Security Studies, Economics, Education, French, Hindi, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Punjabi, Sociology, Urdu, Women's Studies. M.Lib and Information Science, M.Ed in Special Education (Learning Disability), B.A. (Hons. School) followed by M.A. (Hons School) (five-year integrated course).
