'Punjab bags second spot in mid-day meal scheme'

Punjab has bagged second position in the country in implementing the mid-day meal scheme. State education minister Sikander Singh Maluka said under the scheme, over 19 lakh students were covered during the current financial year in 13,723 primary schools and 6,656 upper primary schools of Punjab.

Punjab has bagged second position in the country in implementing the mid-day meal scheme. State education minister Sikander Singh Maluka said under the scheme, over 19 lakh students were covered during the current financial year in 13,723 primary schools and 6,656 upper primary schools of Punjab.

Maluka added that the government has provided an amount of Rs 275.81 crore under the mid-day meal scheme for cooking cost, foodgrain, transportation of foodgrain and honorarium to cook-cum-helper and management. Besides this, Rs 8.6 crore have also been provided for utensils in all government and government-aided schools of the state.
