Punjab Roadways bus crushes Sec-40 school teacher to death

A 42-year-old Punjabi teacher was killed when a Punjab Roadways bus hit her two-wheeler from behind at the Sector 40-41 roundabout on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Paramjit Kaur, a resident of SAS Nagar. She was working as a teacher at Guru Harkrishan Public School, Sector 40.

A 42-year-old Punjabi teacher was killed when a Punjab Roadways bus hit her two-wheeler from behind at the Sector 40-41 roundabout on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Paramjit Kaur, a resident of SAS Nagar. She was working as a teacher at Guru Harkrishan Public School, Sector 40. The driver of the bus was identified as Sukhwinder Singh, 35, a resident of Tarn Taran in Punjab.

Ranjodh Singh, station house officer (SHO), Sector 39 police station, said the incident took place around 4.15pm when the victim was going towards her residence from the school.

“As she reached at the Sector 40-41 roundabout, a rashly-driven Punjab Roadways bus hit her two-wheeler from behind.

She lost control over the vehicle, and was crushed under the rear tyres of the bus,” said the SHO.

Onlookers rushed to her rescue and informed the police. The cops took her to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, from where she was referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). She later succumbed to injuries. Meanwhile, the bus driver was arrested under Section 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC.
