Rains lash Haryana and Punjab

Moderate to heavy rains lashed many places in Haryana and Punjab on Wednesday giving relief to the people from sultry weather.

Chandigarh was lashed by heavy rains since morning and by noon, the city had received a downpour of 20 mm.

Many roads in the city were flooded with rain water.

In Haryana, rains lashed Gurgaon (24 mm), Bhiwani (3.2 mm), Faridabad (5 mm), Rohtak (22 mm), Kalka (20 mm), Ambala(4 mm) and Ballabgarh (9 mm), the Met said in Chandigarh.

The places to be lashed by rains in Punjab were Amritsar (2 mm), Gurdaspur (11.4 mm), Talwandi Sabo (4 mm), Moga (1 mm), Mohali (10 mm), Nawanshahr (20 mm), Balachaur (11.3 mm), Ropar (33 mm), Anandpur Sahib (17 mm).

During the past one week, hot and humid weather had been prevailing in the two states, with Hisar in Haryana yesterday recording a high of 40.2 degrees Celsius.

After the rains, the maximum temperatures today are expected to fall by a few notches, MeT department said.

The Met has also forecast more rains in the region in the next few days.
