Through two separate petitions, the petitioners had challenged the Punjab government's notification for regularising illegal colonies, of which one was dismissed while the other was disposed of with directions to file their objections with the state government.

With the counsel for the petitioners seeking an examination of the policy and various parameters, the division bench granted four weeks to the Punjab government to decide on the objections and explain the rationale of the differential composition fee/regularisation charges.
