Addressing the media at Rupnagar on Saturday, SAD spokesman and Punjab education minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said the issue would be discussed at the party level first. "The party will study the ordinance's provisions and advantages/disadvantages before making its stand clear on when it should be brought into Parliament," he further said.

In reply to a question about the demand raised by former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh for the sacking of Partap Singh Bajwa as Punjab Congress president, Dr Cheema said Amarinder had admitted before Congress president Sonia Gandhi that the Congress would lose the next assembly elections and the Akali-BJP alliance would return to power.

Responding to another query about the reports that Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal would not be invited to the rally where ally BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) would launch its campaign against drugs in the state, the minister said it was the BJP's own programme and it was not necessary for the SAD leaders to attend it.
