SGPC employee killed, four hurt in mishap

An Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) employee was killed and four others sustained injuries when a passenger train hit their Bolero Jeep at an unmanned railway crossing at Gajjpur village near here on Friday.

An Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) employee was killed and four others sustained injuries when a passenger train hit their Bolero Jeep at an unmanned railway crossing at Gajjpur village near here on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Kartar Singh, a resident of Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur.

Railway police official Sukhdev Singh said the accident took place at around 11.30am when the SGPC employees were going towards Gajjpur village in their Jeep.

As the driver tried to cross the unmanned railway crossing, a passenger train going from Nangal to Ambala hit the Jeep resulting in on-the-spot death of one occupant, and severe injuries to the other four.

The injured, Bhupinder Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Balwinder Singh, and Rajiv Kumar were admitted to Bhai Jaita Ji civil hospital in Anandpur Sahib.
