A spokesperson from the chief minister's office said Badal had directed all officers concerned to expedite the process of construction of new toilets and repair of dysfunctional toilets in government schools of the state.
Badal also approved a plan of about Rs 20 crore for the purpose and urged all the members of Parliament (MPs) of Punjab to contribute Rs 50 lakh each from their local area development (MPLAD) fund for government schools in their respective constituencies. The rest of the amount will be contributed by the state government, Badal added.
The chief minister was also informed by the education department that at present, only 1,288 state schools (743 for boys and 545 for girls) were without toilets and 2,256 toilets were in a bad condition.
