The traffic at Tribune Chowk was stuck for about half-an-hour to make way for Mukherjee’s retinue, which was going towards the Punjab Raj Bhawan from the Chandigarh Airport.

The President descended in the city at about 11.55am.

Dakshim Marg and Madhya Marg were the most affected and long queues could be seen on the road leading to Zirakpur from Tribune Chowk to Hallomajra.

Traffic jams also occurred at Sectors 28, 27, 26 and Sector 7/8 and 18/19 roundabouts while traffic came to a standstill in Sector 10/11 and 15/16 as the cavalcade went from Madhya Marg towards the
Panjab University gate opposite PGIMER.

The city residents said this was the problem every time a VVIP visited the city.
