Though the traffic moved smoothly during the day in majority of sectors, serpentine queues were back by the evening.

Motorists jostled for space on all roads leading to major shopping areas comprising crockery, crackers and electronic items. The worst affected areas were Sector 8, 9, 15, 17, 19, 20, 22, 26, 27, 29, 32, 34, 35, 37, 40, 41, 44, 45, 46 and 47 markets.

There was major chaos at Sector 22 roundabout, Sector 34-35 rotary, transport roundabout in Sector 26, road dividing Sector 40-41, Sector 44 roundabout, Manimajra and Elante Mall, near industrial area.

As traffic moved at a snail's pace, vehicles could be seen parked along the roadsides. The parking space in most markets was gobbled up by stalls resulting in spilling of traffic on roads. Residents were stuck up in traffic jams lasting upto half an hour.

SAS Nagar was no different with commuters parking vehicles on the road. The prominent markets of the town - Phase 5, 7, 3B-1, 4 and 10 - witnessed high footfalls. The haphazard parking led to traffic snarls at various places in the city in the evening. In Panchkula, Sector 7, 8, 10 and 11 markets were also not spared with large number of people indulging in last-minute shopping for Diwali.
