Sukhbir gave the assurance to a delegation of Jan Morcha which had spearheaded a campaign against the nagar panchayat status to Nurpur Bedi village.

He reportedly told the delegation that if the residents did not want nagar panchayat status to Nurpur Bedi, the government would not force its decision on them and withdraw the notification issued in this regard.

The delegation comprised of Jan Morcha leaders Ram Tirath, Gian Chand, Nand Lal and Darshan Singh.

The Jan Morcha had been spearheading the agitation for a long period of time against the government's decision. However, local member legislative assembly (MLA) Daljit Singh Cheema had declined the demand of the Jan Morcha and had made it clear that the decision would not be reviewed.
