38-yr-old promises to marry woman, rapes her, arrested
The accused, Nitin Shamrao Zende, a resident of Mulund, was produced in court on Sunday and remanded in police custody.
The Mulund police on Saturday arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marriage and cheating her of ₹7 lakh.

According to police, Zende befriended the complainant as they used to work in the same office. After they became close, the complainant told him that she was divorced and would have frequent disputes with her ex-husband and his family. She also told him that she is a single mother.
“Zende, who was married, promised the complainant that he would marry her. He then raped her on multiple occasions and also demanded ₹10 lakh to get married. The woman paid him ₹7 lakh. He then started avoiding the topic of marriage and eventually, started ignoring her,” said a police officer.
“We are investigating on what pretext exactly he made the demand for the cash,” the officer said.
