As per information, the victim, Manpreet Singh of Sham Nagar, failed to notice a truck reversing on the road due to dense fog and rammed his motorcycle into it and died on the spot.
Mohan Singh, the victim’s father, said he along with his son had gone to visit one of their relatives in Kohara and were returning home on Friday morning when the incident took place.
He said they were on different bikes and Manpreet crashed his bike into a reversing truck, which he failed to see due to the fog.
Singh said the truck driver fled the spot soon after the accident. He added that his rushed his son to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Kulwant Chand, who is investigating the case, said that though visibility was low due to the fog, it was also the truck driver’s fault as he was reversing the vehicle without any care for vehicles coming from behind.
A case under Sections 279 (reckless driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC_ has been registered against the truck driver. A hunt is on for the arrest of the accused.
Mohan Singh said that his son had bought a new motorcycle on December 29, the day of his 26th birthday.
“He had been working hard to buy the new bike and had been saving money for the past several years. He was very excited after buying the new bike and was planning a few modifications on it,” the inconsolable father said.
