Two Kannada writers Beegara, Jayman win Sahitya Academy Awards
The awards will likely be conferred to them in December at an event in New Delhi.
Popular novelist Tammanna Beegara and young writer Dadapeer Jayman from Karnataka won the prestigious Kendra Sahitya Academy awards this year. Jayaman’s short story collections ‘Neelakurinji’ bagged an award and Beegara won Bala Sahitya Puraskar for his children's novel ‘Bavali Guhe’

Jayaman, who hails from Bommanahalli in Ballari district, is also known for his translations. He earlier translated ‘Pardah and Polygomy’ which played a major role in making him notable in the literary world. Beegara, from the Uttara Kannada district, is well known to children's book enthusiasts. Many noted personalities from Karnataka have sent their accolades to both winners.
The awards will likely be conferred to them in December at an event in New Delhi. A prize money of ₹50,000 will also be presented to the winners at the award ceremony.
The Sahitya Academy Awards are usually conferred to people who contribute in the field of literacy and writers from 24 Indian languages compete every year to grab the award. For the first time, the Sahitya Academy Awards were presented in 1954.
