Speaking about the rise in temperature, IMD Chandigarh director Manmohan Singh said, “The rainfall in August so far has been lower than July. Even on Tuesday, the sky remained sunny, causing the temperature to rise further. But it is unlikely to cross 37°C due to humidity.”

Singh added that rain was next most likely on Thursday. “After this, another spell of dry days can be expected. The monsoon trough has shifted a bit southwards, leading to lower rain. It is expected to shift back over this region around August 14, when more rain can be expected,” he said.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature also went up from 27.6°C on Monday to 28.1°C on Tuesday, 4.6 degrees above normal. Humidity hovered between 57% and 86%.

Over the next three days, the day temperature will remain between 31°C and 36°C, while the night temperature will stay around 26°C.

Till date, this monsoon season, which IMD considers from June to September, 578.8 mm rain has been recorded – 11.2% higher than normal.
