Chandigarh: 12 attend day 1 of master plan-2031 hearing, high-rise plan rebuked

12 people appeared before the screening committee constituted by the UT administration on the first day of public hearings on the proposed amendments to the Chandigarh Master Plan (CMP)-2031. The hearings are part of the consultative process to review objections and suggestions received on the draft amendments.

Residents from Dhanas village also participated in the hearing, raising demands for an increase in Floor Area Ratio (FAR). They argued that enhanced FAR would allow better utilisation of land and accommodate growing housing needs in the area.

Officials said the first day was primarily focused on residential and commercial categories.

Hearings will continue till June 28, covering industrial, public, and periphery-related issues in subsequent sessions. The committee is expected to compile its recommendations after the conclusion of the hearings, which will guide any revisions before the amendments are finalised.
