Chandigarh: 4 UP men arrested for stealing from train

The Government Railway Police on Wednesday arrested four men for stealing valuables from a train which stopped at the Chandigarh Railway Station.

The accused have been identified as Chote Lal, Jitendra Yadav, Manak Ram and Indrapal, all hailing from Uttar Pradesh.
As per the police, the train Sadbhavna Express had stopped at the railway station and as it was leaving the tracks at around 9.30pm, the accused were seen jumping out of it under suspicious circumstances. They were searched and found in possession of a mobile phone that was stolen from here on March 6 from the Jammu Tawi Sambalpur Express. Two women’s purses which had ₹2,000 in cash, another phone and a smartwatch were also recovered from them.
A case under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the GRP police station. Station house officer sub-inspector Vilayati Ram said that the four used to work as vendors on the trains and stole luggage to fund their drug habit. They have been sent to judicial custody.
2 snatchers land in police net
Police arrested two men for allegedly committing snatchings in the Industrial Area on March 2 and March 8.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Ashfaq, 22, of Zirakpur and Akash, 23, of Shastri Nagar, Manimajra. They were arrested near the jungle area of Daria village based on a tipoff. The mobile phone which they snatched from one Sanjay of Kishangarh village on Tuesday was recovered. Following interrogation, seven mobile phones and the scooter that they used to commit the snatchings were also recovered. The duo will be presented in court on Thursday.
As per police, both the accused were working for a private contractor at the paid parking of Grain Market in Sector 26, Chandigarh, and lost their jobs amid the pandemic, following which they started committing snatchings.
