Chandigarh | Driver gets employer’s teen son hooked to drugs, extorts money
The accused, identified as Nahar Singh Yadav of Badi Parch village in Mohali, had been working with the family for the last 15 years. The matter came to light on October 26 when ₹8 lakh that the businessman had kept in the car went missing.
The driver of a city-based businessman has been arrested for allegedly getting the latter’s 13-year-old son hooked to drugs and alcohol and extorting money from him.
The accused, identified as Nahar Singh Yadav of Badi Parch village in Mohali, had been working with the family for the last 15 years. The matter came to light on October 26 when ₹8 lakh that the businessman had kept in the car went missing.
While probing the matter, the family learnt that the accused had carried out multiple thefts in their house and was also extorting money from their 13-year-old son, whom he had got addicted to drugs and alcohol.
The family that resides in Sector-19 also found out that the accused had misused their credit cards and stolen jewellery belonging to the businessman’s wife.
A senior cop, privy to the investigations, said, “The accused was a confidant of the family and had unchecked access to the house thus he could carry out the crime without being noticed.”
The officer added, “He used to pick up cash and jewellery on his own at times, and sometimes ask the minor to help him.”
A case under Sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 381 (whoever, being a clerk or servant, or being employed in the capacity of a clerk or servant, commits theft) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 77 (penalty for giving intoxicating liquor or narcotic drug or psychotropic substance to a child) of the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act has been registered at the Sector 19 police station.
The accused will be produced before the court on Wednesday.
