Chandigarh | Heatwave continues for third day, relief likely over weekend

The Met officials said heatwave conditions will continue up to June 9, while light rain is likely in Chandigarh around June 11.

After touching 44.5°C on Sunday, the maximum temperature dipped to 44°C on Monday while heatwave continued in the city for the third consecutive day, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Met officials said heatwave conditions will continue up to June 9, while light rain is likely in the city around June 11.

At 44°C, this was the second hottest day of the year. On Saturday too, the city had seen the mercury levels touching 44°C. The maximum temperature on Monday was 5.1°C above normal, making it the third heatwave day in a row. As per IMD, a heatwave in this region is declared when the maximum temperature goes beyond 40°C and is 4.5 to 6.4 degrees above normal.

Chances for heatwave are likely to continue upto Thursday with clear and dry weather likely to continue along with South Westerly winds which remain dominant and are warming up the region. Light rain is likely in the city around June 11 as per initial observations of the IMD.

Minimum temperature also went up from 25.9°C on Sunday to 27°C on Monday. In the next three days, the maximum temperature will remain between 42°C and 43°C while minimum temperature will remain between 28°C and 29°C.
