The accused, Chanderpal, who also works as a tubewell operator with the MC, as the victim, Chandrika Parshad, has been arrested.

The cyber crime investigation cell had launched a probe after Parshad reported fraudulent transactions from his bank account.

On whether he suspected someone, Parshad had told the police that his colleague Chanderpal visited him when he was hospitalised in January 2018.

Offering to help him secure a medical loan from MC, Chanderpal had taken some signed documents and a blank cheque from him. But he never got any information about the loan.

Police said Chanderpal had cleverly also noted down the victim’s debit card and CVV number, which he used to transfer 5.15 lakh through net banking to different bank accounts.

The accused has been booked under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. He was presented in court on Saturday and sent to two-day police custody.
