Since the pandemic outbreak in March 2020, this block had remained reserved for Covid treatment while non-Covid patients were being admitted in other blocks of the hospital. Currently, there are only six Covid patients admitted in the hospital.

The 334-bedded Nehru block has four departments —department of otolaryngology (ENT), radiotherapy and oncology, endocrinology, and hepatology. Besides, it also has rooms for faculty members of various departments.

“Since Covid cases are declining, PGIMER is shifting its focus on scaling up non-Covid facilities. The departments of radiotherapy and oncology, endocrinology, and hepatology have already started admitting patients at the Nehru block while ENT services will be started soon,” said Dr Vipin Koushal, medical superintendent, PGIMER.

In view of the decline in Covid-19 patients, PGIMER has decided to scale up its walk-in out-patient department (OPD) services and reduce tele-consultation facility.

The hospital will allow walk-in registrations from 8 am to 10 am at the new OPD, advanced cardiac centre, advanced eye centre and oral health sciences centre, while the timings will be 8 am to 11 am at the advanced paediatrics centre.

Tele-consultation facility will be available only for ENT, lung cancer and cardiology clinics from 10.30 am to 11.30 am. It has been discontinued for paediatrics, orthopaedics, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, eye and dental OPDs.

Consultation for paediatrics (medicine and surgery) will also be available online.

PGIMER to inaugurate new academic session from Monday

PGIMER will also start its new academic session for students of all postgraduate courses from Monday. As last year’s batch (July 2021) could not be started due to the second wave of Covid, it will be inaugurated along with the latest batch of January 2022.

The inauguration ceremony will be held at Bhargava auditorium and Capt Bana Singh, PVC, ‘Hero of Siachen’ and Param Vir Chakra awardee, will be the chief guest.
