Chandigarh: Private varsity student tries to rob auto, Good Samaritan chases him down
Auto driver Mohd Akbar said that a youth in his early 20s got into his auto near the Sector-29 lightpoint. After sometime, he asked him to stop the auto, saying that he had to answer the nature’s call. As soon as Akbar stopped the auto, the youth took out a knife and placed it on his neck, and told him to handover all the cash and valuables in his possession.
A Good Samaritan foiled a 23-year-old private university student’s attempt to rob an autorickshaw after he chased him down and handed him over to the police, in Chandigarh on Friday morning around 8.30am.
Auto driver Mohd Akbar said that a youth in his early 20s got into his auto near the Sector-29 lightpoint. After sometime, he asked him to stop the auto, saying that he had to answer the nature’s call. As soon as Akbar stopped the auto, the youth took out a knife and placed it on his neck, and told him to handover all the cash and valuables in his possession.
Akbar told the youth that he had not got any passengers since morning so he did not have any money. It was then that the youth, later identified as Yuvraj Saini, 23, of Modern Housing Complex (MHC), pushed Akbar out of the auto and sped away with the vehicle.
As Akbar called out for help, Rahul, 28, an administrative officer at a private hospital in Sector 34, who was on his way back home after night shift, rushed to his rescue.
He chased the auto on his motorcycle, intercepted the vehicle and caught the youth.
Following this, the police was informed and the youth was arrested.
On questioning, police learnt that the youth was an LLB student at a private university and a drug addict. Police have recovered the knife used in the crime.
He has been booked under Section 397 (robbery) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, and would be produced in court on Saturday.
