Distribution of wheat under central government scheme inspected in Ludhiana

AK Sharma, member of the Punjab State Food Commission, conducted a surprise check on the distribution of wheat under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Aan Yojana in Ludhiana on Monday.
He inspected the depots in Pamal and Birmi villages and inquired about the quality of wheat, weight and non-recovery of money from beneficiaries.
He said that Punjab State Food Commission is responsible for the implementation of National Food Security Act at the grass root level and making sure that beneficiaries avail of its advantages.
Sharma also sought information from the sarpanch of Pamal village and took feedback from the monitoring committee of Birmi regarding distribution of wheat.
Sharma directed officials to ensure distribution of foodgrains as per the instructions issued by the government and keep a check on the quality and quantity of wheat. He added that any negligence will be dealt with strictly.
He said that the quota for distribution is 5-kg wheat per family member per month and 30-kg per member is being distributed currently due to the arrival of six-months’ stock.
Sharma also held a meeting with assistant food and supply officer Nirpaksh Mattu and inspectors Satwinder Singh, Gurwinder Singh and Simrat Singh and directed them to take care of social distancing in view of Covid-19 epidemic besides ensuring availability of drinking water.
