‘Drug addict’ arrested for hurting religious sentiments in Ludhiana

A man, who is allegedly addicted to drugs, was arrested after he threw tobacco and pan masala sachets in the sanctum sanctorum of a gurdwara in Sihera village in Ludhiana district

A man, who is allegedly addicted to drugs, was arrested after he threw tobacco and pan masala sachets in the sanctum sanctorum of a gurdwara in Sihera village, Malaud, Khanna, on Tuesday.

Locals captured the accused, Jaswant Singh of the same village, and handed him over to the police. The complainant, Gurpreet Singh, said, “I saw the accused enter the sanctum sanctorum. He pulled out tobacco and pan masala sachets from his pocket and tossed them in front of the Guru Granth Sahib.”

Assistant sub-inspector Rajinder Singh, who is investigating the case, said an FIR had been registered under Sections 295 ( injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) of the Indian Penal Code.
