The Batala police on Wednesday arrested a gangster owing allegiance to the gang led-by gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria.

The arrested man has been identified as Gurmeet Singh alias Meeta of Khushalpur village falling under the Dera Baba Nanank police station. With the arrest of the accused, the police have also recovered a pistol of .32 bore (China made) and 15 live cartridges from his possession.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Batala, Satinder Singh said the accused was apprehended after having a tip-off. He said the accused had been facing 11 criminal cases, including four of attempted murder, in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
The SSP said, “It is pertinent to mention Meeta was also accused of providing ammunition to notorious gangster Ranjodh Singh alias Bablu, who was arrested during an encounter with the Batala police. Bablu is a close associate of Karamjit Singh alias Fauji of Dera Baba Nanak, who was killed in 2021 by gangster Amanjot Singh alias Jhota. Bablu was also nominated in a murder case that was registered by the Amritsar city’s police.” During the remand, more recoveries are expected from Meeta, said the SSP.
