Haryana: Khattar lays foundation stone of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial in Yamunanagar
Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar laid the foundation for the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial in Yamunanagar, honoring Sikh heritage and culture.
Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday laid the foundation stone of the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial and a state-of-the-art museum at Lohgarh in Yamunanagar district.
Officials said the historical monument will be built on about 20 acres of land donated by the gram panchayat of Bhagwanpur village. A colossal statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur will also be erected through a global design competition.
Khattar said the memorial will immortalise the legacy of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s courage and sacrifice and serve as a symbol of Sikh heritage and Indian culture. He added that the site will become a place of faith and inspiration for devotees from across India and abroad.
Recalling Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s establishment of the first Sikh kingdom with Lohgarh as its capital, Khattar said his struggle against injustice and his reforms, such as abolishing the zamindari system, remain an enduring inspiration.
Ministers Ranjit Singh, Kamal Gupta, and Sardar Randeep Singh Johar of Jamna Auto Industries donated ₹21 lakh each, while other contributors pledged about ₹1 crore in total to the trust.
