J&K Police arrest 2, book drug peddler in Anantnag, Shopian

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested two persons and booked a notorious peddler under the PIT-NDPS Act in separate operations in Anantnag and Shopian.

In Anantnag, police executed a warrant under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act against Mohammad Ashraf Ganie of Waghama, Bijbehara.

The warrant was issued by the divisional commissioner, Kashmir. The accused was apprehended and lodged in Bhaderwah district jail. In a separate operation, a police party from Shopian police station, during routine naka checking at Deegam crossing, intercepted a suspicious person.

“During a personal search, approximately 870gm of ‘charas-like substance’ was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Mohd Younis Pampori of Hergam, Shopian. A case vide FIR No. 167/2026 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered. Investigation has been taken up to establish forward and backward linkages and dismantle the larger drug network involved,” a police spokesperson said.
