Ludhiana: 35-yr-old labourer killed during scuffle between 2 families

A 35-year-old man died and his pregnant wife and three other family members suffered injuries following a scuffle at a slum under Dhandhari Bridge on National Highway-44, late on Sunday night.

The Sahnewal police have lodged a murder case against Mehat Lal of Madhya Pradesh and his four sons Sanjay, Shyam Kumar, Sipahi Lal and Rajan. They used to repair bumpers and other plastic car parts at the Dugri Road car spare parts market.

The deceased has been identified as Dinu Mehta, who is also a resident of Madhya Pradesh and worked as a daily wager. His wife Nagina alias Poonam, 32; father-in-law Lalu, 60; brother-in-law Sehdev and mother-in-Law Raimoon suffered injuries. They have been admitted to civil hospital, where their condition has been stated stable.

Inspector Pawan Kumar, station house officer (SHO) at Sahnewal police station, said that Dinu’s sister-in-law, who lived in MP, had given birth to a daughter and the family was celebrating by playing loud music. Meanwhile, Mehat Lal and his four sons turned up there and asked them to switch off the music, following which they got into a spat and the accused assaulted Dinu and his family members with sticks and bricks.

Locals intervened and rushed the victims to the hospital, where Dinu succumbed to his injuries. The deceased is survived by his four children and a pregnant wife.

Police said that a hunt is on for the arrest of the accused.
