Ludhiana: Man clearing tree branch from road mowed down

A man was killed and another injured after an unidentified vehicle hit them while they were removing a fallen tree branch from the Bhundri-Hambra Road in the Sidhwan Bet area on Monday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Kulwinder Singh, a resident of village Gorahur, while Gurinder Singh of Bharowal Kalan sustained injuries in the incident.
According to the police, a tree branch had fallen onto the road following strong winds and rain.
Kulwinder Singh, Gurinder Singh and their associate, Chamkaur Singh of Sawaddi Kalan, were attempting to clear the obstruction when an unidentified vehicle allegedly struck Kulwinder and Gurinder.
Both injured men were taken to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, where Kulwinder Singh succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Gurinder Singh is undergoing treatment at the hospital, said police.
Based on Gurinder Singh’s statement, Sidhwan Bet police have registered a case against the unidentified driver under Sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence), 281 (rash driving) and 125 (endangering life or personal safety of
others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. “The driver fled the scene after the accident. Efforts are underway to identify and trace him,” said ASI Jaswant Singh, investigating officer in the case.
