22-year-old held for raping teen girl in Dera Bassi

During investigation, it came to light that the accused took the girl to his rented house at Bhankharpur village in Dera Bassi, where he drugged her with a spiked cold drink and raped her

The Dera Bassi police have arrested a 22-year-old man for kidnapping and raping a 16-year-old girl.

The 16-year-old girl was rescued by police from Amritsar and brought back to Dera Bassi, where she underwent medical treatment. The accused was subsequently arrested from Dera Bassi. (Getty images)

ASI Nathi Ram, who is investigating the case, said the girl’s parents had lodged a complaint on May 6 that their daughter was missing.

During investigation, it came to light that Deepak Kumar took the girl to his rented house at Bhankharpur village in Dera Bassi, where he drugged her with a spiked cold drink and raped her. Thereafter, he took her to Patiala where he raped her repeatedly, before dropping her in a bus. When the victim regained consciousness, she found herself in Amritsar. She was rescued by police and brought back to Dera Bassi, where she underwent medical treatment. The accused was subsequently arrested from Dera Bassi.

Investigating officer ASI Nathi Ram said the accused had been booked under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He will be produced before the court on Thursday.
