NITI Aayog releases ₹2-cr to open community libraries in Punjab’s Moga
NITI Aayog has approved the proposal to open eight community libraries in Moga district to develop reading and writing interest among people. An amount of ?2-crore has been released for the project. The libraries will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology and will have adequate staff, internet facilities, toilets, a reading room, a reference room, etc.
With the aim of further developing the interest in reading and writing among people and connecting the youth with literature and education, NITI Aayog has approved the proposal to open eight community libraries in Moga district.
To implement this project on a priority basis, an amount of ₹2-crore has also been released by NITI Aayog.
Moga deputy commissioner Kulwant Singh said that Moga district is included in the list of aspirational districts announced by NITI Aayog. “In the past, NITI Aayog asked to prepare and send projects keeping the all-around development of the people in Moga district. Based on this, district administration had made a proposal and sent it which has been accepted by NITI Aayog and an amount of ₹2-crore has been released immediately for this purpose,” he said.
He said that the district administration is trying to establish two good community libraries in each subdivision. These libraries will be built in two phases. In the first phase, one library will be opened in each sub-division. Preference will be given to opening these libraries in government buildings, especially cooperative societies. “These libraries will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology. These will house high-quality books as well as digital content. Libraries will have adequate staff, internet facilities, toilets, a reading room, a reference room, etc. Apart from this, if someone has to prepare for the competitive examination, a special area will be reserved for them,” he added.
