AMRITSAR: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Amritsar North and former IPS officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh on Thursday dared Punjab Police to arrest Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and former deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal in the 2015 Kotkapura firing case.

The former IPS officer made this statement hours after Sukhbir was summoned by the SIT probing the case of post-sacrilege police firing incident at Kotkapura in 2015.

Responding to a query during an interaction with the media regarding summoning of Sukhbir by the SIT, he said: “Whoever is the accused, he must be arrested. You are just summoning him even after seven years of the incident. It’s failure of the system. Arrest the accused and produce evidence against them in the court.”

Reacting to Sukhbir’s fresh statement that there is no evidence against him in this case, the AAP MLA said: “Every accused will say so. And high-profile accused get law or system changed. But now, people have changed the system. The government is new and it is working gradually.”

Responding to another query, he said: “We can hope of getting the justice, but the question arises who will ensure it. Nobody is ready to speak against this (Badal) family. There is no officer who can do so. He has been summoned only. Neither Channi government had such officers, nor does the present government have it.”

He reiterated that the probe report prepared by the SIT headed by him still stands and is lying in the Faridkot session court and trial will be held on the basis of this report.

Panel stops work of converting Amritsar circuit house into hotel

The Kunwar Vijay-led Punjab Vidhan Sabha’s assurance committee on Thursday directed the officials concerned to stop the work of converting the Amritsar circuit House into a hotel by giving it to a private company, allegedly owned by a former deputy CM’s kin on lease.

Other members of this committee, including the AAP MLAs Balkar Sidhu, Jiwan Singh Sanghowal and Lakhbir Singh Rai, were also present on the occasion. “It was a heritage building, but few politicians tried to possess by giving it to private hands under PPP mode for their vested interests,” said Kunwar Vijay
