Patiala MP Preneet Kaur demands AAP govt to fulfill poll promise towards women
Patiala MP Preneet Kaur said that there is growing resentment among the women as they feel cheated by the AAP government
: Thousands of women led by Patiala MP Preneet Kaur on Thursday staged a massive protest here, demanding the AAP government to fulfil its guarantee of providing financial aid of ₹ 1,000 per month to women in Punjab and warned of intensifying the stir if the dispensation failed to walk the talk by October.
The protesters also submitted a memorandum to deputy commissioner, Patiala, Sakshi Sawhney in this regard.
Addressing the huge gathering, Kaur said, “the Aam Aadmi Party led by Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann gave a guarantee to the people of Punjab before the Vidhan Sabha elections of giving ₹ 1,000 per month to every woman above 18 years in the state. But now it’s been 6 months and there is no sign of the government fulfilling one of its major poll promises.”
She said that there is growing resentment among the women as they feel cheated by the government. “It is our due right which was promised to us by the government and if the Punjab government fails to fulfil this guarantee by October, then we will hold massive protests against them all over the state.”
While handing over the memorandum to the DC, Kaur said, “we demand the state government to immediately fulfil its commitment to the common folk. I also want to point out to the government that the vendetta politics that they are playing against us will not be tolerated at all. Picking and targeting our MCs just because we are in opposition is completely unfair and unjust and it should be stopped immediately.”
Kaur said that former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, during his tenure, implemented many pro-women policies like giving them free bus travel, 50% reservation in local bodies and panchayati raj elections, increase the amount of shagun schemes.
Replying to a media query on justice march for Sidhu Moosewala, she said, “loss of such a young life is completely tragic and saddening and it is understandable that his parents are demanding justice and I completely support them in their quest.”
