PO held with country-made pistol in Chandigarh

The district crime cell of the Chandigarh Police arrested a proclaimed offender (PO) in a robbery case and recovered a country-made pistol along with two live cartridges. The accused has been identified as Sharik, alias Shann, 24, of Dhanas, Chandigarh.

The district crime cell of the Chandigarh Police arrested a proclaimed offender (PO) in a robbery case and recovered a country-made pistol along with two live cartridges. The accused has been identified as Sharik, alias Shann, 24, of Dhanas, Chandigarh. He was caught by the police team while patrolling from behind the ISBT, Sector 43, Chandigarh, on Sunday and a country made pistol along with two live cartridges were recovered from him. During preliminary questioning, Sharik told the police that he has been declared a PO in a robbery case registered in June 2006 as well as a rioting case registered in April 2011.

Interactive session held at PU

Chandigarh The Department of English and Cultural Studies and the office of Dean, International Students, Panjab University, in collaboration with The United States – India Educational Foundation (USIEF) hosted an interactive session on Monday at the Mulk Raj Anand Auditorium of the university. Professor Akshaya Kumar, chairperson, Department of English & Cultural Studies, professor SK Kansal, dean, International Students and professor Deepti Gupta, Department of English, were also in attendance. Dr Gayatri Singhal, Indian programme manager at the Fullbright Commission in India, New Delhi, and Dr Sudarshan Das, senior programme manager at the USIEF- Fullbright Commission in India interacted with the students and elaborated on various activities of the USIEF.

Reunion at PU Mathematics department

Chandigarh A reunion of the 1981-83 batch at the department of mathematics, Panjab University, was held on Sunday. Several esteemed alumni (1981-83 Batch) reunited after 40 years. Suman Bala, chairperson of Department of Mathematics, along with professor Dinesh Khurana, Dr Dilbag Singh, extended a warm welcome to the alumni and expressed their gratitude for visiting the department. The reunion was attended by Rajni Bhalla (principal, GCW, Chandigarh), Pratibha Saini (associate professor, Government College, Ropar), Litika Puri, Shashi Sharma (principal), Neeru Gupta (MC, Ropar), Ramesh Thakur (retired principal), Dr TN Saini (joint director, higher education, Haryana) among others.

PEC students bring laurels

Chandigarh One of the teams of the Speakers Association and Study Circle (SAASC) from Punjab Engineering College (PEC) have been declared as the winner of the business quiz and runners-up for Tech Quiz in Entrepreneurship and Tech Fest “Prometeo” 2023 organised by the IIT-Jodhpur. The winning team is from the 4th year computer science engineering, Sarthak Chauhan, Taranjot Singh and Shubh Ashish.

Chandigarh carrom teams named

Chandigarh Gopal Kakkar and Vaidhavi Mamgain will lead the boys’ and girls’ teams, respectively, in the upcoming 47th Junior National Carrom Championship scheduled to be held at Mumbai from February 1 to 4. The championship is being organised by the All-India Carrom Federation and hosted by Maharashtra State Carrom Association. Teams: (Men’s): Gopal Kakkar, Pratyush Verma, Arnav Bahuguna, Abhinav Sharma, Keshav Tushar and Krishna Gahlawat. (Women’s): Vaidhavi Mamgain, Ayesha, Aashia, Shayna Parveen, Sejal Sharma and Dimple Kaisley.
