Punjab assembly elections: Ludhiana administration launches campaign to raise voter awareness

Ahead of the Punjab assembly elections, the Ludhiana district administration launched a three-month long campaign to raise voter awareness

The district administration launched the three-month long “I Vote, I Lead” campaign in collaboration with city-based NGO, Initiators of Change, at the DC office complex on Thursday. The campaign is aimed towards maximising participation of voters in the upcoming state assembly elections.

The campaign was launched by Ludhiana deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma ahead of the Punjab assembly elections.

The campaign was launched by deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and Jagraon additional deputy commissioner-cum-SVEEP nodal officer, Ludhiana, Dr Nayan Jassal. A team of more than 200 young volunteers from the city will participate and conduct several activities in a phased manner.

The organisation has been working on voting rights and voter awareness with the district administration since 2015. Present at the launch were chairman of Initiators of Change, Gauravdeep Singh, president Arshia Lekhi, vice-president Neeraj Jolly and sub-divisional magistrate of Raikot ,Gurbir Singh Kohli.

The campaign has been launched at state level under the guidance of S Karuna Raju, chief electoral officer, Punjab, and various activities will be conducting in two phases under it. In the first phase, seminars will be conducted at colleges to raise electoral literacy among first time voters. In the second phase, which starts from mid-December, activities such as nukkad nataks, flash mobs, human chains, bike rallies and marathons will be organised.
