Punjab will emerge as hub of medical education: CM
Bhagwant Mann on Sunday reiterated his government’s firm commitment to make Punjab a medical education hub. He was in Kapurthala to inspect the site of upcoming medical college.

Chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday reiterated his government’s firm commitment to make Punjab as a medical education hub.
The CM, who was in Kapurthala to inspect the site of the upcoming medical college, said that the facility will be named after Guru Nanak, the first Sikh master. Mann said the medical college will come up over an area of 20 acres with a cost of ₹428.69 crore. The CM further said that in a major push to medical education in Punjab, the state government has decided to construct 16 new colleges in the coming five years that will enhance the total tally of such institutes in the state to 25.
He said that the foundation stone of Sant Attar Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences at Mastuana Sahib in Sangrur had already been laid. The work on two other medical colleges at Kapurthala and Hoshiapur will also commence soon. The CM envisioned that the students aspiring to pursue medical education will no longer have to go to countries like Ukraine as they will be provided quality medical education in these colleges.
The CM reiterated that the government is fully committed to preserve the hard-earned peace in Punjab. He said that the strenuous efforts are already being made to discourage the gun culture in the state.
Later, the CM also inspected the site of the medical college at Hoshiarpur to be named after Shaheed Udham Singh. He said that the college will come up over 23 acres at a cost of ₹418.3 crore.
