Regularisation row: Panel conducts physical verification of employees at MC’s Zone-B,C office in Ludhiana

The members of the committee formed by the municipal corporation General House, to verify the lists of civic body staffers (sewermen and sweepers) provided by the councillors, conducted a physical verification of employees at the municipal corporation’s (MC) Zone-B and C office, on Monday.
Councillor Gagandeep Singh Sunny Bhalla said some irregularities, including the absence of the date of joining and salary record of employees, were found during the random checking at Ludhiana MC’s office. (HT FILE)
The councillors had provided the list of staffers working in their respective wards to the panel, which was formed amid a row over the alleged inclusion of dead, non-existent employees in the list of contractual employees to be regularised by the MC during the last House meeting on July 25.
Councillor Gagandeep Singh Sunny Bhalla said some irregularities, including the absence of the date of joining and salary record, were found during the random checking. The official and the employee concerned were asked to update the record.
They said some sewermen and sweepers have been working in the MC offices as clerks and helpers.
The lists, which were tabled during the general House meeting, are being scrutinised by joint commissioner Ankur Mahindroo, while the councillors’ lists are being verified by the committee. After this, both lists will be cross-checked and the final lists will be tabled in the next General House meeting to take a final call.
