Addressing a press conference here, party leaders Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema also alleged that there was a likelihood of Majithia being implicated in another “false” case.

The two leaders said Majithia’s wife Ganieve Kaur Majithia, who represents Majitha in the state assembly, has written to chief minister Bhagwant Mann and director general of police VK Bhawra demanding the removal of anti-drug Special Task Force (STF) chief Harpreet Sidhu from the additional charge of ADGP (prisons).

The previous Congress government had booked Majithia in December last year on the basis of Sidhu’s report that was submitted in the high court.

The Akali leaders also alleged that Majithia was being subjected to inhuman conditions in jail. Despite repeated attempts, jail minister Harjot Bains and DGP Bhawra could not be contacted to respond to the allegations.
